4. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website and providers may use cookies, local storage, pixels, logs, and similar technologies for essential functions, preferences, security, performance, and measurement. Browser settings may allow you to limit cookies, but blocking essential storage may prevent account or website features from working. We honor legally required browser-based opt-out signals where applicable to our processing.

5. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including providing service, maintaining network and tax records, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, meeting legal obligations, and protecting security. Retention varies based on the information, relationship, sensitivity, and legal requirements. We delete or deidentify information when it is no longer reasonably needed.

6. Data security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information based on its nature and risk. No system, transmission, or storage method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting account credentials and notifying us through the customer portal of suspected unauthorized access.

  • Correct inaccuracies in personal data.
  • Delete personal data you provided or that we obtained about you.
  • Receive a portable copy of qualifying personal data.

9. Sensitive and communications information

Where law requires, we obtain consent before processing sensitive personal data. Certain internet-service records and communications information may be protected by federal or state laws in addition to general privacy laws. We use and disclose those records only as authorized by applicable law, valid legal process, or customer direction.

10. International visitors

Virginia Internet is based in the United States and primarily serves Virginia. If laws outside the United States apply to our processing, eligible individuals may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, or receive personal data, withdraw consent, and complain to a data-protection authority. Information may be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
